Demons show up often in movies and stories. They’re shown as terrifying creatures with horns, wings, and glowing eyes. But what does the Bible really say about them? The truth is far more serious—and far less like Hollywood.

The Bible gives us a clear picture of what demons are, where they came from, and what they can do. It also tells us something even more important: Jesus has complete authority over them.

What Are Demons in the Bible?

In simple terms, demons are evil spiritual beings. They are not human. They are not ghosts. The Bible describes them as fallen angels—spirits who rebelled against God and chose to follow Satan instead.

They exist in the unseen world. Ephesians 6:12 says, “Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”

That verse shows that demons are part of a real spiritual battle. They oppose God. They work to harm His creation and deceive people.

The Bible also makes it clear that demons are not equal to God. They are created beings. They have limits. They cannot be everywhere at once. They do not know everything. Their power is nothing compared to God’s.

Where Did Demons Come From?

Jesus Has Authority Over Demons

1 John 4:4 says, “The one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.”
